Jio vs Airtel: Q2 FY27 Financial Results Comparison

Reliance Jio Platforms announced its Q2 FY27 results on October 30, 2026. The company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹8,389 crore, representing a 13.7% increase compared with ₹7,379 crore in the same quarter last year.

Jio’s revenue also increased by 11.4% to ₹40,475 crore, compared with ₹36,332 crore in Q2 FY26. Its EBITDA reached ₹21,879 crore, showing 16.6% year-on-year growth.

Bharti Airtel announced its Q2 FY27 results on November 5, 2026. The company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹8,887.5 crore, compared with ₹6,792 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. This represents an increase of around 31%.

Airtel’s revenue from operations increased 16.7% to ₹60,878 crore from ₹52,145 crore a year earlier. Its EBITDA stood at ₹34,946 crore during the quarter.

Looking at these numbers, Airtel reported higher consolidated revenue and net profit growth. However, these are group-level figures and the two companies have different business structures. Airtel’s consolidated revenue also includes its Africa business, so the revenue figures should not be treated as a direct comparison of their Indian mobile operations.

Customer Base and ARPU: Where Jio and Airtel Differ

One of the biggest differences between Jio and Airtel is their customer base.

By the end of September 2026, Reliance Jio had 542.4 million customers, including around 300 million 5G subscribers. The company also added 9.1 million customers during the September quarter.

Jio’s data consumption is another important part of its business. Its customers used an average of 44.2 GB of data per month, compared with 38.7 GB in the same quarter last year. The company also reported 30 million fixed broadband subscribers, showing its growing presence in the home internet market.

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel had more than 498.7 million customers in India at the end of September 2026. Its India mobile ARPU increased to ₹271 from ₹256 in the year-ago quarter.

ARPU stands for Average Revenue Per User. It tells how much money a telecom company earns per customer every month.

Jio reported an ARPU of ₹218.8 in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹211.4 in the same quarter last year.

This means Airtel continues to generate more average revenue per mobile customer than Jio. However, ARPU figures should be read with some caution because the companies may have differences in their reporting methods and customer mix.

Jio’s advantage is its larger customer base, while Airtel’s strength is its higher revenue per mobile user. Both companies are also investing in 5G, broadband and digital services to create new growth opportunities.

What Makes This Comparison Important for Investors?

The Q2 FY27 results show that Jio and Airtel are following different growth strategies in India’s telecom market.

Jio is focusing on expanding its customer base, increasing data consumption and growing its 5G, broadband and digital businesses. Its large subscriber base gives it an opportunity to generate additional revenue as customers use more services.

Airtel, meanwhile, is focusing on premium customers, higher-value mobile plans and growth across its India and Africa businesses. Its higher ARPU shows the benefit of this strategy. However, higher network operating costs and licence fees affected its latest quarterly performance.

For investors, both companies offer different business strengths. Jio has a larger customer base, while Airtel has higher ARPU and stronger reported consolidated revenue growth in this quarter.

The latest results do not make one company an automatic winner. Investors should also consider future revenue growth, operating costs, 5G investments, debt levels and customer additions before evaluating either telecom business.

The next few quarters will be important in understanding whether Jio can improve its revenue per customer and whether Airtel can maintain its growth while controlling network expenses.
