Reliance Share Jump 6%: Did Q2 Results Trigger Nifty’s Rally?

On Monday, November 2, 2026, the stock market opened with Reliance Industries shares surging more than 6% in early trading. The sharp rally in one of India’s largest companies also helped the benchmark Nifty 50 climb nearly 1% in morning trade.
But why did Reliance shares suddenly attract such strong buying interest? Was it simply the company’s latest Q2 results, or are investors looking at something bigger?
The answer is closely tied to Reliance’s financial performance, especially its Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) and digital services businesses.
Reliance Industries had announced its September quarter results on October 30, reporting strong growth across several important financial indicators. The company’s consolidated gross revenue increased 27.8% year-on-year to ₹3,62,268 crore, compared with ₹2,83,548 crore in the same quarter last year. Its profit after tax, including the share of associates and joint ventures, rose 33.8% to ₹29,550 crore.
However, the biggest surprise came from its O2C business, which includes refining and petrochemicals. The segment reported EBITDA of ₹25,203 crore, registering impressive growth of 67.9% year-on-year. Better refining performance, higher product prices and improved margins helped strengthen the company’s overall earnings.
Reliance’s digital business also continued to perform well. Jio Platforms recorded 11.4% growth in operating revenue to ₹40,475 crore, while EBITDA increased 16.6% to ₹21,879 crore. Growing subscribers, higher average revenue per user (ARPU) and digital services contributed to this performance.
These numbers gave investors a stronger reason to reassess Reliance’s earnings outlook. The market reaction was particularly visible when trading resumed on Monday after the weekend. Reliance emerged as one of the biggest contributors to the market’s positive momentum.
Another important factor is Reliance’s heavy weightage in the Nifty 50 index. Unlike smaller companies, movements in heavyweight stocks can have a significant influence on the benchmark. When Reliance gains sharply, it can provide substantial support to the Nifty, even if several other stocks are moving differently. This explains why the company’s rally became an important driver of Monday’s market advance.
The broader market environment also supported the rally. Falling crude oil prices improved investor sentiment, while buying interest in other heavyweight companies helped the Sensex and Nifty move higher. According to Reuters, Reliance was the top Nifty 50 gainer during Monday’s session.
However, Reliance’s Q2 performance was not equally strong across every business segment. Its retail business reported gross revenue growth of 6.4%, but EBITDA before one-time impairment declined 8.6% year-on-year. This indicates that the company still faces challenges related to operating costs, quick-commerce expansion, and retail profitability.
For investors, Monday’s rally highlights an important point: stock prices do not move only because of revenue or profit growth. Market expectations, business performance, future earnings prospects, and institutional buying can all influence share prices.
The key question now is whether Reliance can sustain its improved profitability in the coming quarters. Investors will closely watch refining margins, Jio’s subscriber growth, and the recovery of its retail business.
